Creating a Privacy Policy For Free
Hi Jonathan,
I am an affiliate marketer, and have a web site already.
What I don't have is a privacy policy. I've been told that I need one.
Is this true? Do I actually need a privacy policy even if I'm just doing affiliate marketing?
AND, if yes, do you know how I can get a privacy policy done for cheap or free?
Thanks,
Jane
Hi Jane,
I'm not sure as to the legality of having or not having a Privacy Policy on your web site. My advice on getting legal advice would be to get a legal plan. (You're going to want a legal plan anyway if you're going to be in business.)
But generally speaking, it's a good idea to have a privacy policy.
You already know but for those who don't, here's what a privacy policy is:
Wikipedia: A privacy policy is a legal notice on a website providing information about the use of personal information - particularly personal information collected via the website - by the website owner. Privacy policies usually contain details of what personal information is collected, how the personal information may be used, the persons to whom the personal information may be disclosed, the security measures taken to protect the personal information, and whether the website uses cookies and/or web bugs. The exact contents of a privacy policy will depend upon the applicable law. For instance, there are significant differences between the European and US data privacy laws. Some websites also define their privacy policies using P3P or Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA), allowing browsers to automatically assess the level of privacy offered by the site.
here's a video showing how you can get a privacy policy built for your site without spending any moola. (In other words, this privacy policy from the DMA is free.)
