How To: Opening Web Pages In A New Window
Hi Jonathan,
I know this may be a very basic web page/web design question, so forgive me if it is.
But, I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
When someone clicks on an affiliate link from my web site, they are always taken to another web page, and they leave my site. How do I get the web page to open in a new window?
This is a great web design question. It is a very basic question, but everyone starts somewhere.
I actually remember asking this of someone when I was in college back in 1999 and just getting started building web pages.
Except I think I was a little more frustrated with it and asked "How the do I design this frikkin' page so that the web link opens in a new window?"
And I can picture the girl who I asked, but for the life of me, I don't remember her name.
Ah well. I digress.
Anyway, opening a link in a new window is really simple.
Your link normally looks like this:
[a href="https://www.usaaffiliateprograms.com"]AffiliateAdvice is the best site for affiliate help[/a]
(Of course, replacing the [ ] with < >)
By addng in a target="WhateverNameYouWant", you can make it go to a new page... so the code for the link would look like this:
[a href="https://www.usaaffiliateprograms.com" target="affiliate"]AffiliateAdvice is the best site for affiliate help[/a]
Now if you really want to build this link correctly, make sure you read my post about using a meta-refresh page and turn it into a redirect.
Thanks for asking your question!
